American Film Renaissance

presents:

The Filmmaker's Workshop

August 15-17, 2008

Los Angeles, CA

NOTE:  The 2008 workshop is now in the history books.  Stay tuned for news of our next event.

Do you love great stories?

Great, classic stories of individualism, heroism, liberty and the enduring human spirit are what inspired the founders of the American Film Renaissance to host this filmmaker's workshop.

This summer, more than 30 participants will gather at the campus of UCLA, one of the world's top film schools, for a master class in the art and business of filmmaking conducted by a team of successful Hollywood screenwriters, producers and other industry professionals.

Whether you are an independent filmmaker or documentarian, or want to make movies in Hollywood, this workshop will help you to turn your ideas and stories into films that entertain and enlighten.

By digging into the fundamental elements of narrative, we will explore ways to tell stories with ideas and values you believe in without sacrificing the soul of your concept or falling into the traps of preachiness and boredom.  There will also be sessions on the business side of filmmaking.

One highlight of the workshop is a session on pitching, the art of condensing a two-hour film into a brief verbal pitch that will entice producers and investors to buy or fund your project.  The top pitches of the weekend get an opportunity to pitch to a panel of Hollywood executives.

In exchange for their participation, each student will receive:

  1. Free tuition and admission to all classes and social functions

  2. Free room and board on the campus of UCLA

  3. Round-trip travel reimbursements available to selected participants from outside Southern California

  4. Opportunities to network with Hollywood professionals
